My name is Marilyn Hernandez Castro . Recently my daughter Eternity Maybelline Gaddy was fatally shot right in front of me. She was only 13 years old. A beautiful child, and also my first born baby girl . Eternity was mixed of two cultures, puerto rican and african American .The pain i'm feeling is undescribable, all i feel is numb. I'm from a latin culture , puerto rican, born and raised in chicago. i left in 1996, to escape the violent neighborhoods. I arrived in April 13, 2008. To find out within a month later ,things have not changed at all. I'm 29 years old. I am a mother of four , unfortunately that number is now 3. but my daughter will live on in memory. I'm a college student and a fighter. I believe god has a purpose for everything in life. I hope to make a change in this world. I hope people,children,and families, and gang members, all take a lesson in what happened on that night.

Personal Statement

I live my life in a constant challenge, I believe I can achieve anything i set my mind too. I'm a mother and a student/aspiring singer. anytime someone tells me i can ,i won't _I do it. I believe education is the key. I believe sometimes we need to fall weak to our knees to get back up and be stronger. I believe we all need someone in our corner. I believe in never quitting,...I believe to live healthy lives we must, eat, live life,love,laugh,learn,forgive,appreaciate,acknowledge,be loyal ,and respect and honor. I believe that life is to short and we should always leaved loved ones with loving words. you never know when someone may take them from you. I'd like to fight to stop violence, and spread the awareness, i want to help make a difference and pass on the knowledge that you don't need to be in a gang to be cool, or make friends, you don't have to wear the most expensive clothes for someone to love you and respect you. I do believe you must work hard in life ,cause life is what you make it. I believe people can and will manipulate and lie to a vulnerable person to get what they want. its happened to be , but i am better and stronger now. I believe I can make a change.if we work hard really ,really, hard we can change the world. Please follow your dreams not violence.
