I have been a child welfare specialist for about 3 years. I recently graduated from the Child Law program at Loyola University-Chicago. I am very passionate about children's issues, and as of recently, grew a strong interest in preventing violence amongst children in Chicago/Chicagoland area.

Personal Statement

Education of children starts in the home.  Whether children reside in a dual parent, single parent, or a foster home, parents/guardians/caretakers should be responsible for educating their children about life's issues.

Furthermore, society needs to work together in protecting children-- building family community centers, creating programs, providing/increasing funds for programs, banning guns, neighborhood collaboration, etc... I find it appauling that our country has sent thousands of U.S. troops and spent billions of dollars in a war that is protecting another country.  I feel we have our own war to deal with in our country (violence amongst each other) and more funding should be allocated to programs to support them and the people they serve.

In moving forward with my career, I hope to one day utilize my academic background in Child Law to support current and/or future programs that target our Chicago youths.  I hope to see more involvement from our community in preventing violence amongst our youths.

I Agree,

However, most Educational, Religious, Social, and Recreational Programs in "Tha Hood" are not strong enough to deal with the "Pressure of the Streets". As you said Education starts in the home, and if that Education is witnessing your Mother being raped by Drug Lords, or seeing your Father shoot drugs in his veins then that's one Hell of an Education.

You're right, we have Men and Women fighting in Iraq, but this know also, there are Gang Members on the Police Force, in the United States Military, and in the Sports and Entertainment Industries.

Notice Senator Obama said America should meet with Terrorists to discuss Worldwide Peace Efforts, I believe we should also meet with Gang Members, Gang Leaders, and Chiefs to discuss Peace in America.

Please be sure to visit my blog, you just might find some interesting Programs.
