Caron Atlas is a Brooklyn-based independent consultant working to increase cultural and civic engagement, connect community practice with policy making, and engage arts and culture with other sectors. Recent consultancies include American Documentary/POV; Center for Civic Participation; Fractured Atlas; Pratt Center for Community Development; and the Ford and Nathan Cummings foundations. Previously Caron was the founding director of the American Festival Project, development director of Appalshop, adjunct professor at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, consultant to the Cultural Blueprint for New York City, and associate producer of Dance Theater Workshop. Caron is co-editor of Critical Perspectives: Writings on Art and Civic Dialogue and is currently co-writing a publication about community development that builds on local cultural assets. Caron holds a masters degree in the Social Sciences from the University of Chicago and was a Warren Weaver Fellow at the Rockefeller Foundation.
