Want to save money? Who doesn't. Want to save money while bringing sustainable prosperity to Chicago? Even better. Citizenpowered seemed like the perfect place to start a blog about SaveChicago.org. Our new company launched two months ago and the main thing we've learned so far is not to try to tell the whole story all at once. So, a simple introduction is in order, wouldn't you say? "Your uniqueness will be your curse until it becomes your blessing." Oddly enough, I heard that a few years ago in an interview with a country music singer. Someone told Keith Urban that his "unique sound" was, in fact, too unique. Meaning that people will actively resist change up until the point that they embrace it. I never really understood why I remembered that quote from 6 years ago, but it became clear to me over the last few weeks. Savechicago.org's complexity will one day be its blessing. We've figured out a way to save you tons of money, earn revenue for non-profits, and keep local advertising money "local and sustainable." It's hugely ambitious. It will change many aspects of your life and your community. We can't expect you to adopt these changes right away. You will save money, time, the arts, schools - heck, you'll save the entire city. Local businesses will thrive. But old habits die hard. Chicagoans will resist this change, even if it's for the better. That is, up until the point that they embrace it. NEXT UP: A series of posts about the 4 secrets to saving Chicago.
