Job Description:

YouthBuild Lake County is a non-for-profit organization that provides education and construction related job training programs to low-income youth, 17-25 years of age. The agency is in its 6th year of programming.

We have an immediate opening for a Career Development Manager. This position will be responsible for the Career Development Program and will coordinate all aspects of this program including but not limited to the following:

Job Readiness Training
• Plan and deliver job readiness training curriculum and activities for trainees
• Plan career speakers in Construction, HVAC and other applicable trades
• Plan field trips to apprenticeship schools, HVAC facilities, colleges, etc.
• Develop a mock-interview program for trainees leveraging local business volunteers
• Develop and manage mentoring program

Job Placement
• Develop and cultivate employee placement relationships with current and potential employers
• Develop and manage job shadowing and internships
• Facilitate meetings/interviews between employers and trainees
• Coordinate the Construction Coalition (sub committee of the Board of Directors)
o Internships, placements, job shadowing opportunities
• Coordinate with the Community Coalition (sub committee of the Board of Directors)
o Internships, placements, job shadowing opportunities

College Placement
• Assist trainees in assessing college opportunities including evaluating different schools, taking appropriate tests, applying to schools, applying for financial aid, etc.
• Coordinate with colleges to plan on-site recruiting and information days

Follow up/Graduate Services
• Contact employers and trainees biweekly for first 3 months and monthly thereafter to track employment and education status of all graduates of the program
• Track and follow up with alumni on a regular basis
• Coordinate alumni events

Qualifications:
Interested candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in related field and at least three years of placement related experience. Candidates must also have a desire to work for a small non-profit organization that strongly believes in its mission. Candidates must be able to work with people of all levels, i.e. students, volunteers, board members and employees. Strong project management and organizational skills are mandatory. A clean driving record is also required. Candidates must also have strong organizational skills, be detail-oriented, be able to work both independently and as part of a team, be a motivated self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and able to prioritize multiple tasks. No construction experience or knowledge is necessary.

Salary:
Salary ranges from $36,000 to $45,000 per year, depending on experience. We do not currently offer health benefits.
