AssociationMission Statement
Link. Leverage. Lead. ™ BIG: Blacks in Green™ was born to remind generations of the African diaspora of our great cultural legacy - which is our stewardship of the land - and to reinvent that stewardship in the age of climate change. We are robust partners and participants in the new green economy. We link, that we may leverage; we leverage the resources of the African diaspora, that we may lead ourselves to health and wealth - for blacks in green villages everywhere. We advance "The Eight Principles of Green Village Building" as one answer to seemingly intractable challenges faced by communities of color - health challenges of malnutrition, lead, asthma, autism, and HIV/AIDS; mis-education, drop-outs, and underemployment; hyper-incarceration and recidivism; gang, gun, and domestic violence; state-supported single mother households; and parents looking on as their generations repeat the cycle. We believe the emerging green economy is the closest thing to a "silver bullet" we'll see in many lifetimes, with the power to forge paths into the middle class and sustain families there. We believe BIG Villages ™ are an efficient delivery system for bringing those benefits to our people...to decolonizing our people. In the age of climate change, we recognize that fortunes will be made and lives will be lost. BIG™ is committed to deepening our power for self-help and well-being in these defining times. Wherever on the planet you reside, whatever part of the diaspora produced you, we welcome you…and our progressive green cousins of all persuasions. Come join us.
