The INCREASE the PEACE Campaign officially began on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 1257 W. 111th Street in Chicago, Illinois. The INCREASE the PEACE Campaign is designed to RAISE MONEY for existing, positive, effective youth programs and to RAISE AWARENESS about the senseless violence that is taking place in our cities. It is our belief that when youth are active and involved in these programs, they will be safer and fewer will be idle, allowing for negative things to happen.

Little City - Big Hearts

Last spring I met with members of the staff and board of Little City Foundation. This wonderful organization has a rich history in Palatine where it supports people with developmental disabilities through housing and services. Many come to Little City as children and stay their whole lives. I met with them to discuss a gardening program they had in mind. Here is what we learned from each other in the meeting: Gardening brings so much more to a community than growing vegetables. Little City wanted to have a Pumpkin Patch.

Hear a presentation by Steven Schultz, who owns several parcel of property on the South side of Addison from Sheffield (west) to Clark extending around the corner (south on Clark). His plans include a 150 rental apartment, 137 room hotel, parking, 100,000 sq. ft. of retail space which he feels will attract a Best Buy, Dominick's, CVS, and 50,000 sq. ft. Export Health Club. As well as the existing business will return Starbuck, Improv, Bar Louie and Salt and Pepper. Please attend this informal meeting to learn more about the project, ask questions, and give your feedback.
